Child Labour in South Australian Copper mines?

Synopsis

When we look at the surface, we do not see what was there before. Moonta, a small town west of Adelaide has contributed to the prosperity of the early fledgling economy of South Australia. Children between the age of 10 and 14 were used as child labour to work in the Copper mines to sort the ore.

The documentary shows the atrocious work conditions and living conditions of the time in and around the mines at Moonta. It shows the major role played by the Methodist church in providing basic reading and writing skills to these child labourer. Author then thanks the laws against child labour and laws to ensure safety of work place that exist in Australia today.
